Wentworthy Christmas 2008 - Christmas Quilt for Wentworth

How it started:  On October 27 2008 while a few of us Wentworthies were in the audience of the Paley Center for Media in Los Angeles watching as some of the cast of Prison Break described Season 4 and their experiences with the show and each other, Wentworth was asked a question about one of his best gifts he's received.  He answered as such:

On the flight back from Los Angeles to Minneapolis, Cricket and I sat next to each other talking about our experience with meeting Wentworth and the cast and also about a few other things such as what we should get Wentworth for Christmas as it was quickly approaching.  One of the ideas we had was something about Charlie Brown as that was something that meant a lot to him.

I don't recall how we got on the subject of quilts or even the idea of it but Cricket had the idea of doing a quilt and how members could submit pieces of fabric which would go around the quilt and act as borders of it.  As soon as she came up with that idea, her brain didn't stop and neither did her putting those thoughts into motion.

It took about a month or so and every day she'd have a new update - whether it was when she had finished drawing (not tracing, mind you) the pieces by hand or had just cut them or when her sewing machine broke - it was amazing how quickly she got it done and how beautiful it all came together!

My part of this was getting members to submit their pieces of fabric and to trace her steps of progress so you could see how it all came about.

The quilt was sent to Wentworth's agency and it was received though we have not heard from him (and it's been a few months later) as to how he liked it.  We hope that he stashed it away for safe keeping until a cold day.  Until we receive formal confirmation, our inquiries will continue.

So without further ado-- Cricket's steps on making the Wentworthy Christmas quilt.  It should be said that she does not do quilts often and is not a senior citizen who does knitting in her free time.  Cricket has a full time job and still supports her family but made the quilt a priority in time for Christmas as a gift for Wentworth and for the members who would contribute their fabric as well.  The design came from the Charlie Brown Christmas DVD and even though she redesigned everything, Cricket still gave the copyright credit to the original artist, Charles Schulz, so as not to claim credit herself.

Step One  -- Taking different pieces of construction paper to draw out the design of everything by hand, it gave a way to what would become a preliminary look of the layout.

Step Two  -- As seen below, Cricket then put it on real pieces of fabric and cut them out after finding the right colors which match the same as the product.

Step Three  -- Then she attached everything to the fabric.

Step Four  -- After receiving some of the members pieces, she was able to show what they sent in and continue working on the main pieces by putting a dark outline around everything, even adding the letters and stars as well.  This was a bit timely of a process as there is a lot to outline but by doing so it gave some dramatic effect to the pieces.

Step Five  -- The final steps were to attach the member's pieces to the border and put the finishing touches - the signature and the staff stars and also the "made with love" emblem on.

Step Six   -- the final presentation: the artist and her art.
